How to read the result

For an intra-state illustration, the GST is split equally between CGST and SGST. For an inter-state illustration, the full GST is shown as IGST.

Tax compliance note: The correct GST rate, place-of-supply treatment, exemptions and invoicing rules depend on the transaction. This calculator is not a GST return or tax advisory tool.

GST-inclusive vs GST-exclusive

If a quoted price is exclusive of GST, tax is added to the base price. If the price is GST-inclusive, the tax component must be backed out of the total rather than simply multiplying the total by the GST rate.

For individuals and small businesses

  • Ask whether the quoted price is inclusive or exclusive of GST.
  • Check the invoice for the correct GSTIN and tax components where applicable.
  • Do not assume every product/service has the same GST treatment.
  • For business decisions, consider input tax credit eligibility separately from the customer-facing GST amount.
